In a dystopian future where gladiator-style battles are the world’s top entertainment, deadmau5 and Gerard Way face off in a packed arena—each controlling massive, weaponized mechs with oversized mouse helmets. Broadcast around the world to fans in trailer parks and city streets, the match unfolds in a futuristic UFC event. As the battle intensifies, Gerard gains the upper hand—until a giant robotic cat hacks into the system and turns the tide. The cat seizes control of deadmau5’s mech, defeats Gerard, and then destroys deadmau5's machine as well, standing victorious over the wreckage while the crowd erupts in chaos.

Touted as one of the most expensive EDM music videos ever made, this one was an absolute blast to be a part of. The project brought together two post-production teams — Weapons of Mass Entertainment in Hollywood and Method Studios in Vancouver — each handling different aspects of the workflow. Hollywood covered editorial and 2D motion graphics, while Vancouver tackled the 3D animation and compositing.

I was responsible for cutting the vignette scenes and designing a high-energy motion graphics package that felt like a futuristic spin on a UFC broadcast. Drawing from existing UFC assets and layering in visual cues from sci-fi films like Prometheus, I crafted a fast-paced, immersive interface that helped anchor the video’s narrative.

The final result? A knockout. Over 18 million views and counting — and still one of the most fun projects I’ve had the chance to work on.
