The awards recognize excellence in how historical material is researched, restored, preserved, and integrated into storytelling—whether in documentaries, feature films, television, advertising, or other media.

I was in the edit for about two and a half years, slowly carving the film out of an overwhelming amount of footage. The first assembly came in at over eleven hours; less a “cut” and more a full excavation of everything we had. From there, it became a long process of discovery: figuring out what the film actually wanted to be, what threads carried the most weight, and how to shape decades of history into something that felt focused and intentional. It wasn’t just about cutting scenes down, it was about constantly rethinking structure, tone, and rhythm until the story emerged.
Halfway through post, Nick Saban retired, which was a total curve ball and completely reframed the film in real time. Suddenly, what we were building wasn’t just a story about a program; it was about the closing of a defining era. That shift forced us back into the edit to reshape the narrative, recontextualize moments, and find a way to let that weight land without losing momentum. A lot of the work became about contrast; letting big, high-energy sequences hit hard, then pulling back into quieter, more reflective beats that gave everything meaning. The goal was always to make it feel alive and present, not like a history lesson; something that moves with energy but still carries the full weight of what it’s saying.
