Chris James Champeau, also known as Champ, is a Director, Editor, and Visual Effects Artist based in Los Angeles, California. Over the course of his career, he has worked across feature films, television, commercials, documentaries, music videos, and digital campaigns, developing a reputation for blending storytelling, technical expertise, and creative problem solving.
Originally from rural Wisconsin, Chris spent much of his childhood split between sports and creative pursuits. A four-sport athlete with a passion for filmmaking, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with plans to study film while competing as a Division I swimmer. When a knee injury ended his swimming career, he saw it as an opportunity to double down on filmmaking, leaving Wisconsin for Los Angeles and eventually graduating with top honors from the Los Angeles Film School.
Following graduation, Chris spent several years taking on just about every role he could find in the industry. He bounced between production companies, independent films, and commercials, working jobs that ranged from regularly gaffing comedy shorts for Funny or Die to serving as a DIT during the early days of RED digital cinema cameras. The experience provided a hands-on education across nearly every aspect of production and helped shape the multidisciplinary approach he still brings to projects today. In 2011, Chris joined Dave Stewart Entertainment, where he directed and edited documentaries, worked on dozens of music videos and commercials, and began a creative partnership with legendary musician Dave Stewart that continues to this day.
After several years in-house, Chris founded Glass Half Bourbon, a Los Angeles-based post-production company specializing in editing, visual effects, motion graphics, and finishing. His work spans national advertising campaigns, feature films, documentaries, television series, and digital content. Along the way, he has collaborated with global brands including Mercury Insurance, Red Bull, Microsoft, Lenovo, Samsung, Hulu, Apple, LG, and Hot Wheels, while also contributing to award-winning documentaries, independent features, and long-form storytelling projects that have screened around the world.
When he's not in the edit suite, Chris can usually be found in the garage restoring vintage trucks with his wife Kendra, working on one of his many side projects, or spending far too much time sim racing.
